Astrid and David - 2012-03-31 11:01:52
On the last day of Term One, the students from Years Four and Five, participated in some special activities for their Christian Studies Activity Day. Pastor Rick Zweck led a labyrinth workshop which was a peaceful time of prayer and reflection. Mr Denton expertly led the students in an exciting choral session incorporating percussion and the singing of the song " Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho." Mrs Lewis challenged the children's fine motor skills with the construction of beaded cross keyrings. The final activity was a Bible quiz about Jesus' last days, before his crucifixion and resurrection, compared by Miss Fischle.

Please enjoy a selection of their work
| Making Prisms and Pyramids
Astrid Neldner - 2011-11-4 17:06:48
Year 5 students have been exploring the features of prisms and pyramids. We discovered that it can be quite a challenge to construct a three dimensional shape from its net. Our next challenge will be to create some more complex shapes which can be used as dice in games.
| Egyptian Masks
Astrid Neldner - 2011-11-4 16:54:12
Year 5L have enjoyed having Mrs Montemayor working in the classroom for the past four weeks. Our SOSE unit this term is called "Discovering Democracy" and examines different systems of government, including that of Ancient Egypt. It has been fun to learn about the life and times of Ancient Egyptians, too. A recent art lesson resulted in an enjoyable time creating an Egyptian Mask.
| Colonial Day
Astrid Neldner - 2011-11-4 17:14:56
Year 5 students were once again privileged to participate in the "Possum Creek Colonial Schoolhouse" Day. Mr Bavistock visited and enthralled the children with tales of life on the goldfields and how school teachers used very harsh punishments. Opportunity was given for all to experience writing in copperplate style, using chalk on slates as well as pen and ink. While this was enjoyable, I think all ended the day feeling grateful that we live in the 21st century.
| The Protectors
David Behrendorff - 2011-06-2 13:28:11
Today the school was treated to another production from the "Brainstorm" dramatic group. The theme was on anti-bullying and the performance provided the students with practical ways to be assertive in the face of bullying and not to become a victim. The students were impressed by the vitality and enthusiasm of the young performers, and their dramatic style, to help them in this important issue. It included much emphasis on cyber-bullying. The performance was pitched from Preps to Year 6, and used the super hero method to convey their message. Very entertaining and thought provoking.
| Year 5 Camp
Bob McVey - 2011-05-27 17:50:05
The 2011 Year 5 cohort spent an exciting but tiring 3 days at North Pine Dam Camp at Old Petrie Town. The Theme for the Camp is Living Through History. Group Activities included Trust Games, Low Ropes Course, Giant Swing, Damper Making (and eating), Japanese Braiding, Card Making, Aborigine Crafts and Clue Orienteering. These activities reflect the early crafts of our early pioneers and some co-operation through completing challenging tasks. We set off from school under bright sunny skies but with a hint of winter in the breeze. On arriving at the Camp we were given our bunk rooms, unpacked and set up the dining room for Morning Tea. Each group then rotated through three of their allotted activities. The first night we dined on Chicken Schnitzel and Chips followed by a dessert of Ice Cream and Fruit Salad. The Night Activities for the First Night are traditionally a Bush Dance, which always is a great end to the first day. We danced the Gallopede and the Heel Toe Polka followed by a Dance Making exercise by each Group. The State of Origin Game was scheduled for this night and the excitement level of our small group of hardy Queensland fans rose with each of the three tries. It was a great finish to a tiring but exciting day. Day 2 commenced with a training session consisting of 3 laps of a 300m track, sprints and the Macarena. We then took the obligatory walk through Old Petrie Town checking out the variety of produce sold each day. A hearty breakfast of sausage, hash brown and toast followed. Then off to 4 more Rotations for the day, interspersed with Birthday Cake, ice blocks (another birthday) and lunch. Dinner was a traditional Beef Roast and Apple Crumble for dessert. The Group Activity for the second night is the Trivia Night and a selection of 40 questions tested the greatest minds of our Year 5 Group and some of the parents. Prizes were presented to all participants and we went to bed exhausted but still craving more excitement. Day 3 opened with another training session followed by the traditional Australian breakfast of bacon and scrambled eggs on toast. We had the last of Activity Rotation and then a visit to the Pine Rivers Museum. This venue has several interactive displays of how “Life Was” from 1850’s to now. Back to the Camp Site and the Annual Certificate presentation followed. Each Group member received a statement of something that was memorable. A quick lunch of hot dog, cheese and sauce and then on to the Coach for the trip back to School. I think all agreed it had been a great 3 days. Mr Behrendorff and Mrs Neldner are to be congratulated for a very well planned and implemented Camp. The volunteer parents of Barbara, Sally, Debbie, Craig, Steven and Martin were thanked for their outstanding contribution during the three days.

Yeasterday Year five were treated to a performance from the "Living History" players. They put together an interactive dramatic performance based on various characters from the nineteenth century. The children were encouraged to ask questions and these was then answered in dramatic style. The costumes and artifacts were a great interest for the students, who were allowed time to handle some of them(with care!) Please enjoy the accompanying movie.
| Environmental Awareness
david Behrendorff - 2011-05-4 13:50:28
Today the Years 3 &5 were treated once again to the funny and informative production of The Enviroshow from the Tie Theatre. The students were thrilled to learn some ways they can help the environment, by looking out for ways to limit the effects of air, land and water pollution.
