| An experiment in the pitch of sounds
Miss Lisa Hirsimaki - 2012-09-4 19:54:23
During our learning of sounds, we performed an experiment together that shows how the size, volume or length of an object can impact on the object's pitch.
To keep the experiment fair, we had to: - keep the glasses the same - the tapper the same - fill all with water
Watch this movie to discover the results as we did!
Thank you to Oscar who took all photos and filmed the experiment for us!
| Letter Posting - 1R
Miss Lisa Hirsimaki - 2012-09-4 19:11:50
We were busy writing letters to our family and finally the time came for us to post them! We stuck on stamps and off we set.
The children followed the road rules all the way to the local postbox. A surprise awaited us when we arrived... the postbox had moved. While the postman was busy fixing the postbox to the ground, we posted our letters in his special post bag.
All of the adventures had in our class.
| Junior Primary Olympics
Mrs Liz Plath - 2012-08-13 10:04:10
Last Friday, the Prep to Year 2 children enjoyed a beautiful winter morning with lots of fun activities.
We rotated through many different sporting events such as running races, relays, javelin, shot put, skipping, hockey, obstacle course, long jump, ball games and sack races.
It was a wonderful morning and the children had a great time.
Here are some of the highlights from my group.
| Snail Investigations in 1L
Mrs Kristy Fasso - 2012-06-18 13:05:17
Today in 1L we had fun observing snails as part of our 'Schoolyard Safari' science unit.
Did you know: -‐ that snails do not have a nose?! -‐ that snails have two sets of tentacles on their head?! -‐ that snails are nocturnal?
This week, students discovered that snails have a breathing hole at the base of their shell, which allows air to enter their lungs. They also learnt that land snails have two sets of tentacles on their head. The longer ones have black spots on the ends, which are ‘eyes’. They have very poor eyesight so they rely on touch and smell – the short tentacles are sensitive to vibrations. Students had a great time looking at our snails closely and learning all about their features, what they eat, how they move and how they protect themselves.
| Schoolyard Safari - In the garden
Miss Lisa Hirsimaki - 2012-04-27 15:22:03
Today we were in the garden in search for creepy crawlies. We found many different types - including ants, caterpillars, beetles and long, fat worms! We all had so much fun and were very excited to discover and observe what can be found beneath the leafy green foliage (especially after some cool rain!)
| Healthy Eating with our Year 7 Buddies
Miss Lisa Hirsimaki - 2012-04-9 20:18:39
During our learning in the unit of "It's All About Me" the children learnt about the different groups of food and what choices they could make to eat healthy foods.
Using this knowledge the children came up with a menu choice that they could make for their Year 7 buddies.
The children made a salad sandwich with ham and cheese and a fruit kebab as a healthy dessert.
The buddies loved it (and so did the children in 1R!)
